Number of households with clean water supply increase by more than a million in 2021

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, was able to provide more than a million households with a clean water supply in 2021.

According to the Senior Minister and Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Cham Prasidh, said that the households that has access to clean water supply in the country has increased by 1,091,869, which is an increase of 11.8 percent compared to 2020.

During the inauguration ceremony of the UF-MEMBRANE water treatment system at Kampot Provincial Water Supply Authority on January 9, Minister Prasidh said that the policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia is to expand the water supply to 90 percent of the population by 2023 and 100 percent by 2025. The policy also includes production and services through the development and expansion of water supply systems in both the public and private sectors.

Minister Prasidh said that through the policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Ministry of Industry has always received support from the Royal Government. The Ministry is also trying to secure monetary funds to invest for the construction of additional water supply systems in provinces throughout the country. Funding from development partners have contributed to the progress of the country’s water supply system.

“The nationwide supply of clean water has increased significantly. By 2021, the number of households receiving clean water is more than 1,091,869 households, an increase of 11.8 percent compared to 2020,” Minister Prasidh said.

The Senior Minister also requested the provincial authorities to cooperate in supporting and facilitating the development of clean water projects in the province to run smoothly.
